Sunday news

Dr. Lamb came by at the same time as the ID Dr. They feel that the newest MRI did not show abscesses and that the enhancing areas on the scan were probably necrosis (cell death). I told her I felt like that was worse because abscesses have the possibility of reversing and necrosis sounds permenant. She disagreed because from an infectious disease viewpoint the last thing they want is more infection. Dr. Lamb said they would like to review the scans with a pediatric neuroradiologist. They have set this up for Tues when Dr. Headlan is back at work. They forgot to increase the Baclofen yesterday so they will be trying this today and if he still doesn't calm down they will increase the Clonadine again tomorrow. Dr. Lamb said she still wants to order a visual evoked response test to see if his brain is registering visual stimuli, also she wants to do a swallow test next week sometime. She thinks we may be able to internalize the shunt sometime this week.

This is where the re-wiring that occurs in young brains is going to be a huge blessing. I am thrilled that there are not abscesses lurking about that will always worry everyone. I am glad they are going to do the visual testing. Anni has learned breakfast, lunch, and dinner in sign language (you can tell what is important around our house! I am surprised she hasn't learned dessert). HANG IN THERE!

I'm also excited about the tests this week. I hope you get some answers that have been a long time coming. I know Heavenly Father is with you--I could feel it strongly in Sweet Charlie's hospital room.

Lots of prayers from PA still going up for you and dear sweet Charlie. I pray every day for God to wrap his healing arms around Charlie and to hold you up in this difficult time. Charlie has proven to be a fighter, I have a good feeling he is going to amaze us all in the end.

Baby steps...baby steps. The human brain is a miraculous organ and even more so in a young child. I'm keeping positive thoughts for an outcome that is in the best interests of little Charlie. When you say he's awake at 1337hrs, how awake is he? Love and prayers for you all.

I agree, how awake is he and what were the updates? I need to do my research for my microbio class but I'd rather do it on Charlie's test results!!!

Angel & Rob-
I am just reading the updates from last night and today because I worked my job as a nurse today, and I feel very angry for you right now! I am absolutely appalled that you patiently waited for the resident to finish her work before she came in at 0345 to "read" you a report. I agree that you are Charlie's advocate, and you need to be informed! Even if it is for your own sanity, you need to be informed. The least that the resident could have done is to print out the copy of the report and let you read it yourself. DO NOT stand for this again. Ask for the attending if the resident is to busy to help you. You don't have to be rude or obnoxious-just concerned. It makes me sick that your nurse wasn't more proactive in helping you either. Next time the residents and attending staff are making rounds together- ask the attending what the best way is to get in contact with them to get the test results, and possibly explain using this delay in getting results as an example. You both are there (or some representative) all of the time; it isn't like you are distant parents that disappear and aren't involved at all and then come in and act all concerned and demanding. PLEASE, PLEASE do not allow yourselves to be treated like that again... Go up the chain of command (your nurse, charge nurse, supervisor and such) until someone can help you get the answers.
I'm sorry- I wouldn't expect my patients to stand for the wait (nor would they)! We keep praying for you and look forward to more times that you get to hold your sweet baby! It brings tears to my eyes to imagine the joy that must bring to you!
Love- your sorta cousin!

Hey, guys... I have to agree with the writer that says.. this can't and won't go on forever. I never seen such loyalty and attachment and dedication. You are the strongest family I know. You carry on when some of us would quite and even better you do it with a sense of humor... You are incredible.

I attended all my meetings today hoping my prayers may get to their destination faster...

Love You, Jill b

Meg- The neuroradiologist must be Dr Gary Hedlund because there are only mentioned two possibilities. The attending is really Dr. Lamb (female) not Dr. Lam (male)-Charlie's pediatrician. However Dr. Lamb goes off service on Monday so we start over with a new attending Doc. We also switch Infectious Disease Docs to Dr. Ampollo. Whose famous PICU conversation goes like this...
Dr. Ampollo- "Now we wait"
Angel- "What are we waiting for?" (meaning should I look for more seizures, more fevers, bulging fontenelle ect.)
Dr. Ampollo- "TIME"
Angel- "We are waiting for time?"

I'm told he is a brilliant man so for that I am grateful. I just was a little disappointed in the answer.
