Pumpin' Iron at the Gym :)

Charlie also had his first PT session in the gym. Janine is amazing! He swung with the therapist for a while then relaxed on a big bouncy ball. The ball is usually used to help kids strengthen their back/neck muscles but with Charlie we were working just the opposite. He loved the pressure on his tummy and fell asleep

Dr. Such-Niber talked to a colleague from the health department today regarding Cochlear implants. He said that meningitis cases are different than other hearing loss patients and they should implant ASAP because the cochlea can ossify (harden). If it hardens Charlie will no longer be a candidate for implants. It is also beneficial to implant before speech development so he can hear himself while learning to form words. They may need to see if he responds to hearing aids before he is allowed to be a candidate for implants. I think that is due to insurances not wanting to pay for implants that cost up to 25,000 each ear when a hearing aid only costs 2,000-3,000. Another CT scan will be done tonight or tomorrow to look specifically at the cochlea. The previous scans showed no ossification yet but it was 10 days ago. We are praying for soft cochlea.

We will be praying for soft chochlea for sweet little Charlie as well. I bet it was nice for him to be out of the bed and laying on that ball. What a precious boy.

I am sure Rob is frustrated to be working, but alas...money is important..esp. for insurance purposes

On "All MY Children" the put in cochlear implants and turned them on today. Hey, I am retired and just had my foot operated on and have nothing to do except watch movies, TV and read Grisham novels. But they did this whole storyline and they sound awesome.

Bless you, bless you, Charlie Cooper Christensen (quickly becoming my very favorite name.. lots of good people bare that monicur). Way to go and good luck.. Jill B

BTW, my cousin's young son had cochlear implants (congenital hearing loss) recently with great success. I hope for the insurance company and everyone to get on board so Charlie may have similar amazing results. I am sure she would LOVE to talk about it if you wanted to pick at someone who's been there.

Those are some precious pictures of Charlie. We will be praying extra hard tonight for him.
This might sound like a dumb offer, but if you guys need any help getting ready to move into your house, (cleaning, etc.) I would be more than happy to help. I'm sure you have a lot of offers, but just in case, I would love to help out. You guys are amazing!

Those are the sweetest pictures on the ball! Did he storm at all while doing PT, or did Janine work her 'baby whisperer' techniques? i hope you guys got out tonight. Much love and prayers--especially for soft cochleas tonight.
