Friday Update
Grandma Kathi stayed the night with Charlie and she said it was pretty mild. There were a couple of storms, one ending in a diaper blow out that necessitated an entire linen change. I’m sure it made him feel much better afterwards. The nurse was really proactive in giving Ativan and Morphine at the same time which seemed to calm him down. His left cast is being left off to decrease the agitation. I am told that these storms almost always go away over time. I think it must have something to do with the brain re-regulating itself. It is expected that before we go home they will subside completely. The vision test and swallow study will not be done until we get closer to going home because he needs to be more alert in order to get good results.

Better out than in I always say. Fine work Charlie. The best part about this whole thing Angel, is that someone else gets to change the diaper blowouts. The silver lining perhaps? (I know, a complete stretch).
Have they checked his adrenal glands?? I know a child that was hospitalized with meningitis and the very last thing they checked were his adrenal glands...in situations like this, sometimes they can fail...Adrenal glands produce very important hormones including cortisol, and cortisol helps our bodies deal with stress...I know they are good doctors, but it could be a question you could...may make little charlie less agitated or deal with the casts and everything else if it isnt producing much cortisol.
thanks for the update. when does rob get back?
I have never met any of you, but a mutual friend told me about your poor little guy. Every day I check on your blog to see how he is doing. Every time I do I cry and then pray for him and your family..... Hang in there Cooper, people who don't even know you pray for you and keep you in their hearts.
who told you the storms almost always stop? Neuro? because i thought most of the folks there hadn't even seen storms before old coop came around. in any case, that is good news.
Meg- Dr. Hanlan (peds team) told me the storms almost always stop.
Roxey- Rob gets home today, but then has to go to Vegas for work all of next week.
Mom's are always there for us, aren't they? And I think that you and I are blessed to have the top of the line!! It is amazing to me how the human brain can do to correct bad things that happen to it. It is truly God's hand at work.
Love you,
Stefanie
how's Charlie been today?
